1. What is the best way to deal with road rage?

The best way to deal with road rage is to ignore the other driver as much as possible, apologise with a hand gesture (even if you’re not wrong), and try to get away from the situation.

2. How to stop reacting to road rage?

To stop reacting to road rage, do the following:

  • Take a few deep breaths
  • Change the narrative in your mind
  • Don’t engage with the other driver

3. How to calm someone with road rage?

To calm someone who has road rage, you can:

  • Apologise to them
  • Ignore them and don’t react
  • Remove yourself from the situation by keeping a safe distance away from them on the road

4. How do dashcams protect against road rage incidents?

Dashcams give you evidence against someone who’s driving and behaving dangerously. They also work as a deterrent, because if someone sees that you have a recording of what was done, they’re less likely to react.

6. What if your dashcam is damaged during a road rage incident? Can I still get the footage?

It depends on what type of dashcam you have. If it has a memory card that’s inserted in the dashcam, you may not be able to get footage if it's damaged. But Cartrack’s dashcams use cloud-based storage, so your footage is always safe!

7. What happens if someone has a gun? What should I do?

If someone pulls out a gun during a road rage incident, it's a felony in South Africa, so they should be dealt with by the police. However, in that moment you should try to diffuse the situation, apologise, get in your car, lock the doors and try to get away from the situation. Then you should call/go directly to the nearest police station to report the incident.

8. Why do people get so angry when driving?

People get angry quite easily on the road for a few reasons:

  • Running late
  • Having a bad day
  • Personal stress
  • Entitlement
